A speech given on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of F.D.I by Tran Thi Phuong Lien, Managing Director

Board of Members , Board of Directors of FDI trading and freight forwarding company limited, and all beloved FDI employees,
Ladies and gentlemen,
First and foremost, I would like to respectfully greet all of you and wish you all happiness and success, I would also like to wish all members of FDI good health and peace to achieve dreams for individuals, families and especially for FDI.
Today, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the FDI company, this is also the first time that I stand in front of you to share the stages of formation and development as well as the aspirations of FDI.
The predestined establishment of the FDI company

After 13 years of working as a salaried employee for Korean and Japanese logistics companies, I asked myself “Why don’t I do it for myself?”. From that very thought, the intention to start a business arose and a family company was founded. The FDI company was established on April 16, 2003, by both of us, Mr. Tran Huu Nghia and me Tran Thi Phuong Lien, with the purpose to create jobs for ourselves, for our families, and for people who had predestined relationships with us, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.


After 13 years of working as a salaried employee for Korean and Japanese logistics companies, I asked myself “Why don’t I do it for myself?”. From that very thought, the intention to start a business arose and a family company was founded. The FDI company was established on April 16, 2003, by both of us, Mr. Tran Huu Nghia and me Tran Thi Phuong Lien, with the purpose to create jobs for ourselves, for our families, and for people who had predestined relationships with us, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

FDI is a limited company operating under the Enterprise Law, specializing in the field of forwarding logistics goods, and the Legal Representative is Mr. Tran Huu Nghia. In the first step of operation, the company always had the close support of Formosa Taffeta company, Japan New Furniture company, Komega Sports company, and some co-loader companies have always supported FDI until today. In addition, there are foreign agents in the group of WCA, CGLN, the agents that I know and have worked with before. The 20-year development process of FDI has also had many thorns and difficulties to overcome, I would like to summarize the orientation and development process every 5 years.

Process of development :

2003 – 2007 period: It was a period of building a brand through finding domestic and
international customers abroad, as well as staff training. With a capital of 500 million VND and 5 staff included me, the first month the company lost 1,032 USD. In the first year, the revenue were 25 billion VND, and tax payment was 25 million VND. At the end of 2007, the charter capital was 1 billion VND, with 30 employees, and the revenue during this period were 200 billion VND, tax paid in 5 years was 920 million VND.

2008 – 2012 period: The next 5-year period from 2008 to 2012 was devoted to developing the FDI brand to the international market and expanding branches, and at the same time fostering and training staff.

On April 1, 2010, FDI was merged into Kerry Logistics Network with the goal of
bringing the FDI boat farther out to sea and perfecting the system to adapt to the common development of the freight forwarding and logistics industry in the world in general and in the country in particular (from the point of view that two heads are still better than one head because KLN has international experience, FDI only has domestic experience, what is needed and what is available meet to learn from each other, and make money outside together).

In the 3 regions in Vietnam, 3 branches in Hanoi, Hai Phong and Da Nang were established (Hanoi on September 17, 2007, Hai Phong on April 20, 2010, and Da Nang on August 2, 2010). In 2009, FDI was officially selected by Thaco as one of the international shipping service providers until today.

During this period, the charter capital increased to 20 billion VND, the number of employees in 2012 increased to 125, 5-year revenue also increased to 820 billion, and 5-year tax payment was 7.7 billion.

2013 – 2017 period: It was a period of upgrading the system, developing FDI brand together with KLN Group, constantly nurturing and training the next generation of FDI. During this period, the charter capital was maintained at 20 billion. The number of employees in 2017 was 186, 5-year revenue were 3,297 billion and 5-year tax payment was 96 billion VND.

2018 – 2022 period: It was a breakthrough stage of development, bringing FDI into the top 10 logistics companies of Vietnam.
At this time, the charter capital of the company was 20 billion, the number of employees in 2022 was 231, 5-year revenue were 6,783 billion, 5-year tax payment was 86 billion
VND.

2023 – 2028 period: This stage aims to upgrade the system and contribute to KLN to become top 5 global logistics companies, currently KLN is ranked 8th in the world.

Twenty years – a journey

Looking back on the journey from start-up – formation and development over twenty years, there have been many hardships and challenges for talent, expertise and people’ hearts, from the leadership to the staff. Some people have left the company, but there are loyal people who consistently stay, sharing difficulties as well as joys together

I especially thanks to Mr. Pham Xuan Ket, whom we have the opportunity to meet from the beginning of setting up, creating mechanisms and policies, and building corporate culture. As the Deputy Director of Financial as well as Chief Accountant, he and the staff have brought the Company’s achievements to a higher level. Although he is more than 70 years old, he is still attached and devoted to the development of the company. We do not forget to thank to Mr. Ket’ s wife Nguyen Thi Kim Lan, who always stands behind him to support him when he cooperates with FDI.

Whether it is difficult or favorable, the company has taken successful breakthrough steps, so as to confirm its existence in the transformation of global economy and connect well with customers and partners directly or indirectly, domestically and internationally.

Future direction

The company’s motto of action for the next five years from 2023 to 2028 is “Success without pride, failure without discouragement, holding hands and moving forward, sharing and making every single part perfect together”.
With the content of that motto, we make feasible plans, catch up with the development trends of the world, certainly the company not only affirms its own existence, but also its development strongly and sustainably in the future.

Before ending, on behalf of the FDI company, we would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation and gratitude for your cooperation with our company over the past twenty years and we whole-heartedly look forward to continuing our valuable cooperation in the future.

We would also like to thank all FDI employees and your families for your loyalty, attachment and companionship with the FDI company. As I shared previously on the occasion of the company founding anniversary in Ninh Chu, Ninh Thuan Province in 2012: FDI is only for those who know how to patiently operate with FDI.
